There are at least 34 passengers of the Sulpicio Lines' MV Princess of the Stars were rescued Mulanay, Quezon province on Sunday after the passenger vessel sank off Sibuyan Island in Romblon province caused by a deadly typhoon Frank (international codename Fengshen).
Lamorias told ABS-CBN's morning show, "Umagang Kay Ganda," that the ship sank 15 minutes after ship Capt. Florencio Marimon ordered all passengers to abandon the ferry.
Lamorias said only a number of passengers were able to use life rafts while almost half of the over 700 passengers wore life jackets before jumping off the ship.
The ship sank off Sibuyan Island on Saturday, 16 hours after it left North Harbor in Manila bound for Cebu.
Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard, said rescuers have recovered five bodies after the sinking of the ferry.
